Dr. Scott Schwandt’s philosophy of care is providing compassionate, comprehensive dentistry that helps patient feel heard, respected, and confident in their care. He believes dentistry is a blend of science, artistry, communication and trust. His goal is to meet patients where they are, explain treatment in a way that feels understandable, and work with them toward oral health that improves comfort, function, confidence, and quality of life. Dr. Schwandt has experience and clinical interest in comprehensive general dentistry, restorative dentistry, removable prosthodontics, oral surgery, endodontics, prevention, community health dentistry, patient education, and care for underserved and rural communities.
Dr. Schwandt chose dentistry because it combines working with his hands, solving problems, educating people, building relationships, and using creativity to improve someone’s health and confidence. Before dental school, he worked with PartnerSHIP 4 Health, a regional public health organization in northwestern Minnesota which helped shape his interest in public health dentistry.
Dr. Schwandt grew up in Fargo, loves the snow, and knows the cold all too well. Outside of work, he enjoys making pottery, playing tennis, hiking, skiing, mountain biking, cooking, and spending time outdoors. He and his wife were drawn to rural Colorado for the mountains, sunshine, community, and the opportunity to serve in a place where access to care matters. Before becoming a dentist, he spent time doing paleontology fieldwork in Montana’s Hell Creek Formation. If he had not gone into dentistry, he might have become some combination of artist, teacher, scientist, or dinosaur fossil hunter.
