Even though the weather has been warm, it’s important to remember that flu season is not over! This season has had high flu activity, so here is some basic information to make sure that you are informed.

Influenza is a contagious respiratory virus that goes around every winter. The most common symptoms of influenza are fever, cough, body aches, headache, congestion and fatigue.

Influenza is very contagious, and you may even be able to pass on the virus before you are sick.  The most important thing you can do to protect yourself and your family from the flu is to get a flu shot every year.  The flu shot covers four different strains of the virus and is different every year.  This year, the shot has not been perfect, but is still the best way to keep yourself and your family safe.

The next most important thing to think about is how to keep the virus from spreading. You can do this by being good about hand washing, covering your cough, and keeping yourself and your family away from others while sick. People who should be most careful about being exposed to influenza are children, the elderly, or people with chronic diseases like asthma or diabetes.

Remember, we still have flu shots, so come in to get one if you haven’t because flu season isn’t over yet!
