It’s time to celebrate…October is Physical Therapy month! This is exciting to many people who work in the physical therapy field and to those who have experienced the benefits of physical therapy. For those who are not in either of those categories it is often difficult to really know what physical therapy is all about. Is it just a bunch of exercises? Is “pain and torture” really a more appropriate interpretation of the acronym P.T. than “physical therapy”?
Physical therapists (PTs) are experts in movement, helping people to regain pain free mobility by many different means. Using scientific research and proven methods, PTs provide individualized exercise programs in order to address specific movement problems found in each patient. PTs also use a variety of hands on techniques, called manual therapy, in order to treat tissue imbalances and improve joint motion. Research has shown that physical therapy is effective for treating people with a variety of diagnoses, including musculoskeletal issues such as back pain, neurological problems such as stroke, and various developmental disorders. The restoration of normal movement through physical therapy intervention can greatly improve one’s quality of life.
Valley-Wide Health Systems offers physical therapy in several different convenient locations across the valley. Interventions offered by the physical therapists include:
- Joint mobilization and manipulation
- Soft tissue mobilization
- Functional Movement Screen for predisposing injury factors and individualized correction program
- Intramuscular dry needling
- Balance and gait re-training
