Earlier this year, Dr. Eric Wilson, a dentist at Valley-Wide Alamosa Dental Clinic, spent three weeks in Cambodia as part of the Global Dental Relief Camp.
The mission of Global Dental Relief is “to bring free dental care to children around the globe in Nepal, India, Guatemala, Kenya, and Cambodia.” Dr. Wilson is a volunteer with this outreach effort every year.
“It is a great way to give back to people who don’t typically have access to dental services,” explained Dr. Wilson. “Through this outreach, we can help these communities obtain better oral health.”
The team Dr. Wilson worked with this year served nearly 1,000 patients and donated time and dental services at an approximate value of $159,000. The work completed included 649 oral health exams, 469 fluoride treatments, 242 cleanings, 287 fillings, and 318 extractions.
“We are proud of this work that Dr. Wilson participates in each year,” said Karen Mizokami, Director of Dental Services. “This is extending the mission of Valley-Wide far and wide.”
