March is National Nutrition Month! We are excited to announce that throughout the month, Valley-Wide will be providing lots of resources to help you and your family eat healthier foods, plan your meals, and provide education on what to look for to make healthier decisions.

The theme of the materials you will see throughout the month will be “Go Further with Food”. This means our focus will be showing our community how decisions around what you eat can help you in a variety of different areas.

The foundation of a healthy lifestyle includes physical activity and consuming a balanced variety of nutrient-rich foods and beverages in moderation. Whether it is starting the day off right with a healthy breakfast or a mid-day snack while at the office, the foods you choose can make a real difference.

In helping people eat healthier, it is important to know why we fall short in the first place. Here are some important statistics from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics:

  • 82% of people don’t want to give up foods they like in order to eat healthier
  • 68% don’t eat fruits or vegetables at least twice per day
  • 62% report having no time to track their diet in order to eat healthier
  • 60% juggle both work and family and prefer to have meals done in 15 minutes or less
