So said Ben Franklin many years ago. This is very true when thinking about your health and planning healthcare visits. Seeing your primary care provider for wellness exams, even if you have no problems, may help you identify problems you didn’t know you had and may also help you to head off an issue before it becomes a problem. We diagnose more diabetes from routine visits than from people coming in with suspicious symptoms.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Generally men and women aged 21-49 with no known health issues should get a check-up every 4 years. Those aged 50 to 64 should be seen every 2 years. Seniors and children over 3 should be seen annually. For the little ones we recommend seeing your provider at 1 mo., and at 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 24 and 30 months. Preventive health visits are covered by your insurance as a provision of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), and they are covered by Medicaid and Medicare.

Of course you should also consider screening more frequently for specifics such as mammograms, Paps, family planning, diabetic checks and such. You and your provider can discuss and update vaccines for children and adults. Your provider will be happy to see you and help prevent future problems.
