1. Prepare early:  If you like to bake; make rolls of cookie dough and freeze them. Pull them out and bake them as people are coming in.  Frozen traditional casseroles can be reheated as needed.

2. Think about ordering a precooked turkey from a store. This can assure that your prize poultry is properly cooked.

3. If you wrap gifts ahead of time, tag them and identify what the package contains to avoid confusion and duplication.

4. Expectations:  Keep the mood light by not discussing money, politics or other sensitive topics.

5. Homes:  The more relaxed you are about the conditions, the more fun you and your guests will have.

6. Money: Do not feel obligated to buy things you cannot afford. The stress of starting a new year with huge bills is enough to take the joy away.

7. Play music. Dance. Walk or work out. Do yoga or Pilates. These are great stress relievers.

8. Food:  Do not abandon your healthy lifestyle. If you are watching your diet and you allow yourself a piece of pie, go for a walk later on to burn the calories. A holiday is simply another day. Be present in the moment. Do not worry about the future or the past. The gift of the present is something we can all give to ourselves.
