Valley-Wide Health Systems is pleased to announce that Judy Ramirez, a Licensed Practical Nurse at Valley-Wide Las Animas Clinic, was recently honored as the recipient of the first 2018 Sunshine Award. The award was presented at the first Wake-Up Breakfast of the year, which is hosted by the La Junta Chamber of Commerce.
“Judy’s selflessness and commitment to community are what makes her such an invaluable member of the Valley-Wide team,” commented Roberta Calkins-Mendoza, Valley-Wide Las Animas Clinic Manager. “This award recognizes her commitment to going above and beyond for our patients and their families, both in the clinic and outside of work.”
That commitment is widely felt, as Ramirez is the founder of a hospitality house for families of people being treated at Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center. Families are able to stay here when they need a place to go during an emergency. This project has affectionately come to be known as the “Lean On Me House”.
In addition, Ramirez also founded “the Giving Wall”, a contribution that gives back to the community as a place where coats, scarves, and other items are placed for those in need.
For her part, Ramirez quoted St. Paul, who said, “Do nothing from selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others as better than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to your own interests but also to the interest of others.”
“Both in word and in action, Judy exemplifies Valley-Wide’s core values and best qualities,” said Dr. Denise Trujillo, Director of Nursing. “We are thrilled that she was recognized with this much deserved honor.”
