It’s time to prepare yourself and those in your care for emergencies and disasters. Given the fires in Colorado this summer… it brings home the need to be prepared!
Please plan and prepare in the event you are without electricity, water, phone or other local services for several days.
You should follow these steps:
1. Stay informed-
- information is available from local, state and federal resource
- information comes from news reports, social media, web, mobile devices, radio, paper, flyers
2. Make a Plan-
- discuss, agree on, and document an emergency plan with your family & friends
- establish a meeting place away from home in case you need to evacuate
- be sure to include pets in any plan
3. Build a Kit-
- keep enough emergency supplies on hand for 3 days (water, nonperishable food, first aid, prescriptions, flashlight and battery powered radio, have cash on hand)
- in case you need to evacuate have a bag with important documents, cash, a change of clothing, footwear, blankets and a sleeping bag
- have a first aid kit (remember to update it every 6 months)
4. Get involved-
- the whole community can participate in programs and activities to make homes, workplace, schools safer
- know how local authorities will notify you of an emergency event
- share what you have learned with others
