The Valley-Wide San Luis Health Center has made significant strides in the enrollment of eligible patients in their tobacco cessation counseling program.
“One of our top priorities is to be proactive and keep the communities we serve healthy,” explained Marisa Atencio, Assistant Director of Nursing.
From February to August of 2017, an average of 35.3% of eligible patients were enrolled in tobacco cessation counseling. Then in September of 2017, a Plan-To-Do-Study-Act was implemented by Valley-Wide Health Systems. San Luis Health Center was one of the piloting clinics.
In that first month alone, enrollment in tobacco cessation counseling jumped to 76.1% of eligible patients enrolled and has continued improving from there. The momentum has continued into 2018, with 93.8% of eligible patients now enrolled.
“The staff at Valley-Wide San Luis Health Center has done a great job committing to this initiative and helping counsel people to quit smoking or using tobacco products,” said Atencio.
