The Alamosa Dental Clinic and La Jara Dental Clinic staff had the opportunity to reach out to the young K-5 students of Alamosa Elementary for the AES Career Fair on May 05, 2017. Starting at 11:45 a.m., the kindergarteners were the first class to gather at our booth and the kiddos were eager to hear Justin Beagley’s presentation on Oral Health. The young students walked away with a goodie bag that contained a brochure, toothbrush and toys.
Over 800 students had the opportunity to stop by and listen to Justin discuss the importance of taking care of your teeth. They also had fun swishing with disclosing solution and competed against fellow school mates on who had the cleanest teeth. The students also had the opportunity to ask Dr. Kohlgraf, our Chief Dental Officer (CDO), and Justin questions about their careers in dentistry. Some questions that were asked were: “How long did you have to go to school for?” “What do you like most and least about your job?”
We were then able to quiz the students on what they had just learned and we gave out some prizes such as stress balls, Frisbees and pens. Dr. Mendoza, our Chief Medical Officer (CMO), joined us with a presentation on Heart Health that went hand in hand with our Oral Health presentation. The kids sat quietly and listened patiently while Dr. Mendoza went over the importance of eating healthy and staying active.
