Jennifer Hanna describes her philosophy of care using this quote by Psychologist, Martin Seligman, “Psychology is not just the study of weakness and damage; it is also the study of strengths and virtue. Treatment in not just fixing what is broken; it is nurturing what is best within us.” Jennifer realized early on in her life that she would be a social activist. As she began working in the Social Work field, she realized the power of therapy. Therapy is one of few spaces where two people show up in the interest of one, and she feels it’s a beautiful interaction and is honored to be a part of it. Jennifer has the most experience working with people who have experienced various types of interpersonal violence. She finds Sexual Assault trauma cases most rewarding. In addition, she also enjoys working with young children in play therapy, and adolescents. Jennifer uses various modalities in her practice such as EMDR as well as talk therapy and skills based therapies.
Born and raised in Alamosa, Jennifer enjoys riding dirt bikes, kayaking, going to the gym, cooking and spending time with her daughter. If her career path didn’t lead her to social work she would be a stand-up comedian. She serves on the Board of Directors for Tu Casa, Inc., loves swimming and being in the water, but fish scare her!
