As a counselor, Nereida Aguirre believes that the client is in control during the therapeutic process. The process of change requires client insight into their thoughts, feelings, and behavior. She is there to create an empathetic, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment in which the client can process and deal with their symptoms and life struggles. She loves getting to see the progress and changes her clients make in their own lives. Nereida is particularly interested in crisis work and working with SPMI (severe, persistent mental illness) adult clients. She has experience working with various mental health disorders including depression, anxiety, bipolar, schizophrenia, and PTSD. As a counselor, Nereida utilizes CBT, DPT, person-centered therapy, and mindfulness. She hopes to learn more about EMDR and polyvagal theory to better meet the needs of her clients.
Nereida is a native of Southern Colorado. After attending college in the city, she moved back to her hometown so she could give back to her community. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, listening to music and podcasts, and reading – she can read up to 600 words a minute! Watching the Colorado Avalanche and Denver Broncos is also something that she loves to do.
