Valley-Wide’s Physical Therapists from left to right: Sarah Williams, Candice Wright, Justin Cordova, Ashley Koppenhafer

The month of October is Physical Therapy Month. What exactly is physical therapy and how can it help me? Our physical therapy department addresses questions that may arise for someone who has never been to physical therapy before and how it can help improve your health.

What is Physical Therapy?  Is it “physical torture”?  Does it hurt?  These are some questions that arise when a person has never been to Physical Therapy.  Physical Therapy is the use of various treatment techniques to help improve upon impairments related to illness or injury.  It can help people of all ages overcome painful conditions/diseases in order to return to activities that were previously difficult.  Activities such as getting dressed, cleaning, work tasks or playing sports may be difficult for many reasons.  A Physical Therapist (PT) can identify problems to address in order to help you return to the activities you enjoy or need to do on a daily basis.  Valley-Wide Health Systems Physical Therapy is able to treat impairments related to the following diagnoses:

  • Orthopedic
    • Sports injury
    • Post-operative
    • General musculoskeletal pain
  • Neurologic
    • Stroke
    • Parkinson’s Disease
    • Multiple Sclerosis
    • Traumatic Brain Injury
    • Guillian-Barre
  • Pediatrics
    • Gross motor delays
    • Gait
  • Pre and Post Partum
    • Back and pelvic pain
    • General exercise conditioning
    • Incontinence
  • Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain
    • Low back pain
    • Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy/Complex Regional Pain Syndrome

Physical Therapy helps to improve the following: strength, flexibility, endurance, balance and pain.  A PT/PTA will use various treatment techniques ranging from exercises to manual therapy to the use of modalities (ie. traction).  There are many options to choose from to help you achieve your functional goals.  Valley-Wide Physical Therapists provide the following services:

  • Manual Therapy (grade V manipulation/joint mobilization)
  • Functional Dry Needling
  • Therapeutic Exercises
  • Balance Re-Training
  • Gait Training
  • Chronic Pain Management
  • Orthotics/Prosthetics Training
  • Modalities

Schedule an appointment at a clinic near you to visit with one of our Physical Therapists.
